About Mimi
Sheekoo is the culmination of my lifelong obsession with handcrafts. Having tried to grab needle and thread out of my mother's hands since I was a preschooler, I always loved to make things. I learned to sew, knit, and embroider from my mother and grandmother while in primary school. Although I'll admit that my first real sewing project was a pair of kelly green polyester overalls when I was in 4th grade (hey, polyester was really hip back then), my tastes and talents are a bit more refined today.
These days, I tend toward designs that are understated, timeless, and practical. I prefer soft, natural fabrics (cotton, linen, wool) that are bold and eye-catching.

About Sheekoo
Sheekoo is a Korean word, loosely translated as "family". Or, as my mother more aptly defines it, "this group right here," as she gestures to those around the dining room table. So Sheekoo means those with whom you break bread--a generous, inclusive word that fits a company that has come to life with the support of many friends and family members.
Though my immediate family consists of my husband (a.k.a. Webmaster) and two daughters (a.k.a. Cheap Child Labor and Creative Directors), my extended family of friends has also been extremely supportive and helpful in bringing Sheekoo into being. I thank them all for their belief in me.
Fabric is purchased in small quantities and each bag is handmade. Many are one of a kind. Patterns are usually drafted on scrap paper, and all sewing takes place in my studio, aka garage.
